Inuyasha, un semidemon sare in aer tinand in mana o bijuterie numita Shikon No Tama.O tanara preoteasa,numita Kikyo apare si trage o sageata in el,prinzandu-l de un copac.O fata tanara cu un ochi bandajat fuge spre ea si Kikyo ii cere sa-i arda corpul impreuna cu giuvaierul,pentru ca demonii sa nu poata sa puna mana pe el.
Cincizeci de ani mai tarziu, in Japonia moderna,o fata pe nume Kikyo,este trasa intr-o fantana sacra de un demon.Demonul s-a trezit cand a simtit prezenta ei si Kagome l-a impins si i-a rupt bratele.Cand a aterizat pe fundul fantanii credea ca e un vis,dar cand s-a uitat in jur a vazut mana si a realizat ca nu a fost.Cand a iesit din fantana nu mai era acasa.Era in era feudala.
Kagome a intrat intr-o padure si l-a vazut pe Inuyasha,prins de copac.S-a dus la el si i-a pipait urechile.Apoi niste sateni o captureaza,sustinand ca e un demon si au dus-o in sat.Preoteasa batrana a satului,Kaede,o dezleaga si o duce in casa ei.Ea explica ca a facut-o pentru ca Kagome seamana foarte mult cu Kikyo.Apoi s-au auzit zgomote afara si acelasi demon care a tras-o in fantana distrugea satul.Demonul a zarut-o pe Kagome si s-a indreptat spre ea.Kagome il scoate din sat si il duce in padure si il gaseste iar pe Inuyasha care se trezeste si care o confunda cu Kikyo si incepe sa vorbesca cu ea.Demonul a prins-o si a muscat-o,iar givaierul a sarit din ea.Demonul a inghitit bijuteria,transformandu-se intr-u demon puternic.Inuyasha insist sa-l elibereze,scotand sageata si ea asa face.Inuyasha omoara demonul dintr-o singura lovitura.
Cand Kagome a recuperat giuvaierul,Inuyasha incepe s-o atace,pentru a lua giuvaierul.Kaede spune o incentatie si un lant de matanii violete apar in jurul gatului lui Inuyasha.Ii spune li Kagome sa spuna cuvantul si cand Kagome spune cuvantul("osawi!" ,toti sunt convinsi ca ea e reincarnerea lui Kikyo,de aceea giuvaierul se afla in corpul ei.Kaede ii ca giuvaierul mareste puterea demonilor,dar oamenii nu au la ce s-o folosesca.
Kagome,careia nu-i placea de a se afla in era feudala,a incercat sa mearga acasa,dar a fost rapita de hoticare au dus-o la seful lor.Seful lor incearca s-o loveasca cu sabia,dar nimereste unul din oamenii lui si Kagome isi da sseama ca ceva nu e in regula cu el,amintindu-si ca Kaede i-a spus ca oamenii nu au la ce s-o folosesca.Inuyasha o gaseste si le spune ca seful era doar un mort cu un demon cioara in el care ii controleaza miscarile.Demonul cioara inghite giuvaierul,iar Kagome incearca sa-l loveasca cu o sageata,dar nu reuseste.Demonul prinde un copil,iar Inuyasha il face bucati. Kagome sare dupa copil,care cazuse in apa.Demonul se reface si Kagome ia ghiara care a ramas agatata de baiat si o leaga de o sageata si trage in monstru.Il loveste,dar loveste si giuvaierul care se sparge in multe bucati.De atunci Inuaysha si Kagome cauta bucatile de giuvaier si distrug demoni.Pe parcursul calatoriei si intalmesc cu Shippo,Miroku si Sango si isi continua calatoria pentru a-l infrange pe Naraku, care a tradat sau a ranit intr-un fel pe fiecare dintre ei.
